3. Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon quits over AI safety concerns, gives up unvested equity
Coxon posted on X about his move and said many people building AI share his views:
Coxon quit Anthropic 4 months after joining and 2 months before his equity would have vested.
He still holds equity in OpenAI, his prior employer.
“The consensus is that the next year or two is crunch time for humanity,” Coxon said in an interview.
Relatedly, CAISI’s Paul Christiano joined the OpenAI Foundation board and its Safety and Security Committee.
The AI industry is not on track to reduce loss-of-control risk to an “acceptable” level, Christiano said.
