3. Trump asks Supreme Court to uphold his global tariffs

Markets see a 57% chance the Supreme Court rules in favor of Trump’s tariffs:

  • Early Nov.: the appeal seeks a highly expedited schedule, with arguments then.

  • It follows a federal appeals court ruling that declared Trump’s move illegal.

  • The current U.S. average effective tariff rate of 16% would be cut by at least half if Trump loses the case.

  • The Supreme Court is expected to take up the case, though justices must still agree to do so.

  • Sep. 10: the Trump admin has asked the court to hear the appeal.
