3. Trump signs rare earths deal with Australia to fight China
Australia holds the world’s fourth-largest rare earth reserves:
The U.S. and Australia will jointly invest in mining and processing projects in Australia under the deal.
The agreement includes Australian processing of rare earths and other critical minerals.
Both countries will each invest $1B+ over the next 6 months, with more projects planned in both nations.
“In about a year from now, we’ll have so much critical mineral and rare earths that you won’t know what to do with them,” Trump said.
Australia and the U.S. are also discussing “trade, submarines, lots of other military equipment,” with national security high on the agenda, Trump said.
