1. Google Gemini Advanced launches at $20/mo

  • Uses the Gemini Ultra 1.0 model.

  • Soon: Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and other apps.

  • Bard and Duet brandings are dead: Bard is Gemini and Duet is Gemini for Workspace.

Gemini Pro was already on par with GPT-4 in LMSYS’s Chatbot Arena Leaderboard — it’s possible Gemini Ultra will surpass GPT-4 soon

Gemini Advanced is part of Google One, meaning for some users it will only be a $10/mo upgrade

2. Sam Altman seeks to raise up to $7T from UAE, SoftBank to build chip plants in U.S. with TSMC’s help

  • Unclear why so much money is needed: global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment were $100B in 2023.

  • U.S. plants may be hard, as TSMC’s efforts in Arizona are facing delays, shortage of skilled workers, and high cost.

  • The U.S. government may need to authorize the UAE’s involvement. Commerce Secretary Raimondo is in the negotiations.

  • This often happens organically: A few enthusiasts within an organization will turn to public-facing AI services to find ways to increase their own productivity, then bring those insights to their employer.

  • Data supports this — a recent study from Deloitte found that off-the-shelf tools are the primary way businesses are deploying AI, and a survey from The Conference Board shows employees often begin using AI tools even before their company has an official AI policy.

  • MindStudio is a tool that enables anyone to start building AI apps in a single afternoon. Connect AIs cross-departmentally, use any models, and integrate current tech stack without using any code.
